Aquatic Therapy

Water-based therapy complements land therapy and is a valuable tool for intervention. The buoyancy of water decreases joint stress and pain, making aquatic therapy effective and motivational. State-of-the-art aquatic therapy is provided with a SwimEx Therapy Pool and HydroWorx300 underwater treadmill at the North clinic and an Aquaciser underwater treadmill at Union Hospital Therapy Clinton.

Aquatic specialists at Union Hospital Therapy are returning patients to a better quality of life. Therapists use varying levels of water, buoyancy factors, and resistant currents along with exercises tailored to help patients improve their quality of life following an injury, serious illness, or surgery.
Our aquatic team is trained to develop individual rehabilitation plans for each patient and implement those plans using the best tools and techniques available.
According to our aquatic therapists, patients use muscles differently in the water than we do on land because there isn’t as much gravity to contend with. This allows the rehabilitation process to occur with less stress on joints and injured areas. Patient results show an increased range of motion and mobility, improved balance, muscle strength, and flexibility.
New patients are being accepted through referrals only. Union Hospital Therapy requires a signed prescription from a primary care provider. To schedule an appointment, call 812.238.7210 or fax 812.303.0266.
