Ortho Walk-in Clinic

Union Health’s Ortho Walk-In Clinic Allows You To Be Seen Today!

When you have a sudden injury and need to be treated, the Ortho Walk-In Clinic at the Union Medical Group Bone & Joint Center is a convenient way for you to be seen. We evaluate injuries related to bones, joints and muscles (sprains, strains, simple fractures, acute/recent bone and joint problems). Patients will receive an initial evaluation and X-rays, as needed.

When is Union Health’s Ortho Walk-In Clinic available? Where is it located?

  • The Ortho Walk-In Clinic is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic takes a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and any patients arriving during that time will be scheduled to be seen (in order) starting at 1 p.m.
  • The Ortho Walk-In Clinic is located inside the Union Health Bone & Joint Center at 1725 N. 5th  St. in Terre Haute.

What should I expect during my visit to the Union Health Ortho Walk-In Clinic? Will I need x-rays?

  • Your injury will be evaluated by a Union Health Orthopedic expert. Your care provider will determine the extent of your injury and if x-rays are needed. Please note that in most cases, x-rays will be taken during your visit to evaluate your injury.
  • The Union Health Ortho Walk-In Clinic has the capability of taking x-rays during your visit. If additional imaging such as an MRI or CT scan is deemed necessary by your care provider, we will make every attempt to schedule your imaging appointment prior to your departure. If this is not possible due to insurance or hours of operation, someone from the Union Health scheduling team will contact you to schedule advanced imaging.
  • Please remember that walk-in patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

What type of injuries can be evaluated at the Union Health Ortho Walk-In Clinic?

  • We evaluate injuries related to bones, joints, and muscles (sprains, strains, simple fractures, acute/recent bone and joint problems).
What about back pain? If you have suffered a recent back injury (two weeks ago or less) due to lifting, a fall or sports-related activity, your injury can be assessed by one of our Union Health Orthopedic experts. If you are experiencing chronic back pain (longer than two weeks), we recommend making an appointment with one of our Union Health spine or pain specialists.

Is a visit to the Union Health Ortho Walk-In Clinic a better option than going to the Emergency Room?

  • Union Hospital’s busy Emergency Department sees all manner of illness and serious injuries which could lead to an extended wait time for you. The Union Health Ortho Walk-In Clinic is designed specifically to evaluate injuries related to bones, joints and muscles which means you’ll receive specialized care from a Union Health Orthopedic expert. You are also likely to experience a much shorter wait time (please note that we tend to be busiest on Mondays, immediately after lunch, and at the end of the school day).

How long will I have to wait to be seen?

  • Injuries are unpredictable, which makes our walk-in volume unpredictable. Since no appointment is required for our walk-in clinic, it is impossible for us to know how many people may come in at any given time and how serious their injuries may be. The Union Health Ortho Walk-In Clinic team will always strive to treat your injuries in the most efficient way possible to get you back to your day, but your wait will always be determined by our daily patient volume.

What if my injury occurs on a weekend?

  • In the event that you suffer an injury related to bones, joints, and muscles (sprains, strains, simple fractures, acute/recent bone and joint problems) on Saturday or Sunday, one of Union Health’s Convenient Care locations can do an initial evaluation of your injury. However, please keep in mind that Convenient Care does not offer specialized orthopedic care.
    • Our convenient Care Downtown location at 221 S 6th Street is open Saturdays 9am – 3pm and Sundays 11am – 5pm.
    • Our Convenient Care Eastside location at Sycamore Terrace is open Saturday 9am – 6pm and is closed on Sunday.
    • Union Hospital’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for any serious injury you might suffer.

Union Health’s Ortho Walk-In Clinic is located at the Bone & Joint Center at 1725 N. 5th St. – Terre Haute

Open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
